This week across Australia, people from all backgrounds are celebrating NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week offers a time for all Australians to celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (A&TSI) people, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities with Northcott. Our staff are supporting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers and their communities with many events across NSW, so we hope to see you there!

Northcott’s vision for reconciliation is to build an inclusive society where people can live a life they choose and achieve their goals and aspirations. We recognise the challenges faced by those in the community with disability and are committed to supporting people to overcome these challenges and to remain connected to their communities and broader society. The theme for NAIDOC Week in 2019 is: “Voice. Treaty. Truth.” This is a new opportunity to tell, hear and acknowledge the true story of Australia. We need to hear the history to create true reconciliation, genuine healing for both sides. Then, we will be able to move forward together, creating a shared future.

Our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) reflects Northcott’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation. Through clear actions with realistic targets, we are aiming to enhance our relationships with A&TSI communities, organisations and leaders. The Stretch RAP also focusses on embedding cultural change within Northcott through building strong relationships, creating meaningful opportunities and respecting the contribution of A&TSI communities to our society.

NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity to join in the celebration of history, cultures, and achievements of A&TSI people, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation and creating a shared future.
