Learn the skills you need to get more out of every day

Improving your strength, movement and flexibility can boost your quality of life and open up your world to new experiences. Whatever your age or health conditions, our physiotherapy services will enable you to build your movement skills, take part in new activities and achieve the physical goals that are important to you.

Our experienced physical therapists will work closely with you and the people who support you – like parents, teachers and employers – to achieve your desired physical goals. These might be focused on movement or activities at home, in the classroom, at work or out in the community.

I am able to practice using my muscles so I can move as independently as I can, for as long as I can

Leslie

For children, we’ll work with you to be as independent, confident and strong in your bodies as you can be. Whether it’s riding a bike or playing with friends, playing sport or swimming in the pool, you’ll improve your ability to move and set up healthy exercise practices for life. As you get older your needs change, and our physiotherapists provide advice on the right exercises, movements and equipment for your situation and life stage. You’ll gain confidence and feel empowered to learn new skills at any age.

A physiotherapy assessment will look at the way you move around different environments in everyday life. It will assess how your body functions, the strength of your muscles, your balance and your fitness. Face-to-face sessions will establish therapy goals and the strategies and exercises needed to learn new skills. You can then build upon what you’ve learned with a consistent, daily routine when you’re back in your natural environment.

It’s never too early or too late to work with a physical therapist, whether it’s managing the physical needs of your daily routine, or setting a goal to try something new.

Achieve physical goals with physiotherapy

It’s never too early or too late to work with a physical therapist, whether it’s managing the physical needs of your daily routine, or setting a goal to try something new.

Physical skills

Called ‘gross motor skills’, these cover whole body movements used to do everyday activities like standing, walking, running and jumping. It includes hand-eye coordination like throwing or kicking a ball, as well as riding a bike or swimming. For children, learning these skills will enable them to move more and take part in social play activities.

Getting around

Using tailored exercises to work on your muscle strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and walking will improve your mobility. This will give you the ability to stand, walk or move around more easily and independently.

Recommend equipment

If needed, we’ll recommend the right mobility equipment to support you in your goals. For example, this might be a walking or standing frame, customised footwear or a wheelchair.

Recovery from surgery or illness

Rehabilitation will build your strength and skills after you’ve undergone surgery or experienced illness so you can function more independently.

Hydrotherapy

Take part in exercises and activities in warm water which will reduce pain and stiffness.

Exercise opportunities and programs

Enhance your health and wellbeing with access to sport or recreation opportunities in the community, like pilates, yoga or PE lessons at school, along with home or gym exercise programs.

Get more time and support to achieve your goals

You can achieve your goals faster by working with an Allied Health Assistant (AHA). An AHA works under the guidance of your physiotherapist, supporting the program your therapist has created for you. The affordability of an AHA gives you more time to work on your goals. Our AHA’s are either qualified with a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistant, studying their undergraduate degree to become Allied Health Professionals, or both.
