Let’s get active!

Group Services are services where a people come together in a group setting with other people who have similar goals and interests at a Northcott Centre or in the community.

Most of our Group Services are delivered as a Program of Support. This means you are supported to work towards your goals in terms period of up to 12 weeks.

Our Coordinators will discuss with you what you would like to achieve within the term, and work with you to develop strategies and activities that will assist you in working towards achieving your goal/s. This is a personalised approach and you will are able to secure your place in a small group and pre-plan your Program of Support with their peers, Northcott Coordinator and support workers.

I’ve changed so much since coming to Northcott. I’m more confident. Northcott has helped so much with everything. I feel pretty good about my future now.

How do you support people with different needs?

We focus on person centred active support. This is an approach that is fundamental to the provision of effective, person-centred support.  It is a way of providing assistance to people that focuses on making sure individuals are engaged and have the ability to participate in all areas of their life.

The practical outcome of person centred active support is better engagement. This means we explore ways of supporting you the way you want to be supported, with guidance from you, your family, community group and anyone you want us to connect to. We don’t believe in a rigid system with broad solutions that compromise our level of service. Hence the way we manage the delivery of our group services depends on our clients, disability supports needs, interests and engagement. For example, many of our Recreation groups plan activities as a team, manage the social calendar, research businesses and use their skills to create a personalised event plan for their group.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

We respect and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present and future. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on this land and commit to building a brighter future together.
