Motor Skills Training for Children

Northcott are running a motor skills training workshop for children with disability, this is a two part program designed to assist children who struggle to perform daily motor tasks.  It is specifically aimed at children between the ages of 2 to 7 and their parents/carers. Children may be diagnosed or have a suspected disability of developmental delay or autism spectrum disorder.

Two occupational therapists will facilitate a three hour workshop where parents/carers will better understand how children learn motor skills. Attendees will be provided with strategies to promote this development and practical skills which they can implement at home. This is also an opportunity for individuals to connect with other parents of children with similar disabilities.

Parents and caregivers are able to learn and put into practice their newly learnt skills in a practical environment while supported by our occupational therapists and a therapy assistant. Your child will engage with activities across three stations focusing on improving motor skills, core strength and coordination. Stations include play, dress up and meal time.

The skills learnt throughout the program can be continued and practiced at home with the aim of increasing the child’s independence and confidence.
