Northcott CEO joins national Advisory Group for Pandemic Planning
Northcott Chief Executive Officer Kerry Stubbs has joined, by invitation, the Australian Government’s Advisory Group for Disability Pandemic Planning.
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic unfolds, the Advisory Group has been established to guide development and implementation of a response plan focusing on the unique health needs of people with disability. It will develop and implement the Management and Operational Plan for People with Disability.
Kerry said: “I’m so pleased to be a part of this group because it will give me the opportunity to provide valuable input and advocate for the safety of not just all of Northcott’s customers and staff, but all people with disability and all disability service organisations in Australia.”
The Plan will form part of the Australian Health Sector Emergency Response Plan for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and will ensure – among other elements – access to coronavirus screening, prevention and health care. It will give priority to individuals whose disability and current health status places them at the greatest risk. This includes people with intellectual disability and people who have complex support needs— behavioural, social, or physical—to undertake the activities of daily living.
The Advisory Group held its first meeting late last week, with the aim to deliver the Plan to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPCC) – the country’s key decision making committee for health emergencies – later this week, for immediate action.
Chaired by a senior official from the Australian Government Department of Health, the Advisory Group includes experts from the disability sector, academia, clinical practice, nursing, the Australian Government plus state and territory government representatives.
