Construction kick-off at Glenroy
We celebrated a very special milestone as we officially broke ground on our newest Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) project in Glenroy.
Customers, partners, families and community members came together to celebrate the milestone sod-turning ceremony at the Ryan Road site, marking the start of construction on two purpose-built homes designed to support people to live more independently and with greater choice.
A highlight of the morning was seeing Northcott customers Jody and Shelley take part in the ceremony, helping to turn the first sod alongside project partners. Their involvement was a powerful reminder of what this project is all about – creating homes that are shaped by the people who will live in them.

A project driven by partnership
This important development is being delivered in partnership with Inclusive Housing Australia (IHA), bringing together shared expertise and a common goal of providing high-quality, accessible homes for people with disability.
Inclusive Housing Australia plays a key role in delivering thoughtfully designed, contemporary housing, while Northcott brings decades of experience supporting people to live fulfilling, independent lives. Together, the partnership demonstrates what is possible when organisations work collaboratively to address community need and create lasting impact.
The project is also supported by construction partner Harnest, whose team will bring the design to life over the coming months.
Meeting a growing need in the community
The Glenroy development responds to a very real and growing demand for specialist disability housing across the region.
The lack of suitable accommodation can mean people are forced to live in homes that are not fully accessible, or in some cases, relocate away from their communities, families and support networks in order to find suitable accommodation.
With a total of six bedrooms, this project is a step toward closing that gap. Importantly, the homes have been designed in collaboration with people with disability, ensuring that every element supports dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Designed for independence, connection and quality of life
The new homes will provide residents with more than just a place to live, they offer the foundation for a more connected and independent life. The development will include accessible, adaptable living spaces suitable for a range of support needs, along with access to services such as personal care and daily living support through Northcott.
The location itself has been carefully chosen to enhance lifestyle and wellbeing. With proximity to essential services, community amenities, and nearby parks and natural reserves, residents will have opportunities to stay connected to their local area, spend time outdoors, and participate in community life.

Looking ahead
As construction begins, there is a strong sense of anticipation for what lies ahead. The sod-turning ceremony was not just about marking the start of a build – it was about celebrating progress, collaboration and the promise of something better.
There is still work to be done, but with the support of partners like Inclusive Housing Australia and Harnest, and with the voices of customers at the centre, these houses will soon be ready to welcome the people who will make them home.
