Ronald a long-time customer of Northcott has been enjoying the newfound comfort and functionality of his specially designed chair for three months now. The new wheelchair was custom-built for Ronald and delivered all the way from Canada.
Ronald’s previous wheelchairs
Ronald’s previous wheelchair often broke because he is very strong. Over the past few years, Ronald struggled with an inadequate wheelchair that couldn’t support his weight and strength. The brakes would fail, and the handles were flimsy, leaving Ronald frustrated and confined.
The new wheelchair
Ronald’s new wheelchair has stronger handles, the brake system is improved, and the seat and headrest redesigned for maximum comfort.
“It’s like sitting on a cloud,” Ronald remarks with a smile.
The improvements don’t just stop at functionality. Ronald’s newfound independence is evident in his daily activities. He proudly navigates through his day program at Flintwood, confidently moving around the facility. With his new chair, Ronald is supported both physically and emotionally and he feels more at ease.
The new wheelchair has also brought about a behavioural change in Ronald.
Mercy, one of Ronald’s caregivers, recalls the change she’s witnessed since Ronald received his new chair.
All of this would not have been possible without the dedication and support of Elena, Service Coordinator at The Ponds, as well as Ronald’s support coordinator, who worked tirelessly to secure NDIS funding for the new wheelchair.

Looking at the future
Ronald’s desire for independence is now more achievable than ever. From using the restroom to moving around his home, Ronald embraces his newfound freedom with gratitude.
“I feel like I can do anything,” he says with a sense of pride.
With his custom wheelchair, Ronald now looks forward to a future filled with even more opportunities and adventures, knowing that he has the support he needs to thrive.
