Spinal Cord Injury Awareness: Sharing Stories Through 40 Voices

News

Each year, Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week reminds us of the strength, resilience and determination of people living with spinal cord injuries, as well as the importance of raising awareness and support in our communities. It’s also an opportunity to share real stories that highlight the challenges, triumphs and everyday experiences of those impacted, while providing useful guidance and insight for those earlier in their journeys.

One way we’re helping amplify these voices is through the 40 Voices Podcast. This podcast gives people with spinal cord injuries, their families and supporters a platform to tell their stories in their own words. Listeners gain insight into the realities of living with a spinal cord injury, from navigating health and rehabilitation, to finding new pathways in work, study and community life.

Watch the video to hear from Carmela, a mum who shares her family’s journey after her son Zac acquired a spinal cord injury as a baby. She speaks about the challenges they faced, as well as the strength they found together. Carmela explains how the 40 Voices Podcast became a source of comfort and hope, not just for her, but for her whole family, as they realised, they weren’t alone in their journey.

By tuning in, you’ll hear personal stories like Carmela’s – stories of resilience, hope and possibility that break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and celebrate inclusion.

🎧 You can listen to the 40 Voices Podcast on Spotify, iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Omni and Powrd Media.
