Playing games and learning new skills

Oscar is 5 years old and is currently in day-care five days a week. He’ll be starting “big school” next year and is already getting very excited about it.

When Oscar was a little younger his family noticed he was having hearing and speech related issues.

He was soon referred to Northcott NDIS early childhood where he began to receive early supports. The family started working with Early Supports Coordinator Tracy and together they set out some achievable goals for Oscar’s learning and development. Oscar also shared his own goal of wanting to learn how to play games.

Supporting Oscar’s goals

With Tracy’s support Oscar’s skills and learning have come leaps and bounds! They worked on his speech, confidence, emotional regulation and overall gross motor skills. They did this in creative ways using sounds and games to stimulate his learning.

“Oscar has an excellent memory, loves playing snap and fish. He is a fabulous snap player and it got to a stage where I didn’t want to play with him anymore because he kept winning!” says Tracy.

Now Oscar is a confident, imaginative kid who can come up with his own games.

“He keeps himself occupied for hours by building Lego creations and role playing Power Rangers or Ben 10! He also enjoys going to the park, playing superheroes with his friends and he absolutely loves to have a chat”, says Holly.

What’s next for Oscar?

Oscar is working on his school readiness skills and is really looking forward to making lots of new friends next year!
