Introduction to Leisa from our Early Supports Team

Early Childhood News

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what your role at Northcott is?

I am part of the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie Early Supports team and my role is an Early Supports Coordinator. I have two dogs who are my absolute world. I believe it is important to do what you love in life especially in your chosen career path.
Something many people don’t know about me is that I spent most of my childhood growing up on a dairy farm!

Tell us about your career path and what led you to work at Northcott?

My career revolves around early childhood education in which I have worked in for the past 20 years. I love my job and everything it entails whether it is in an early childhood service, or now in early childhood space at Northcott.

The things that drew me in to Northcott was the way the job advertisement was written. After doing my research on their website and about the Early Childhood Approach, I knew this was the job for me as it is important for me to work for and represent a company who supports and values their employees.

What gets you out of bed each day to come to work?

Coffee! I also like that I can build trusting relationships with my families and support them in what they need for their child. I feel good when families open about what they are concerned about. I pride myself in how hard I work to build the trusting relationships with them.

What is your favourite part of your role and what is the most challenging part?

I love being out in the community and helping the families that come across my case load. Seeing where they start going along the progress journey is satisfying knowing that I have given them the resources and strategies to support them in helping their child achieve their goals.

The challenging part for me is when complex cases come my way, understanding the child’s journey through their early years can be tough to hear at times but I do my absolute best to support them and their family.

Do you have any favourite quote or mottos you live your life by?

“What is in the stars is on earth; What is on earth is in the stars”

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

“Life is a journey, not a destination”

“The comeback is always stronger than the setback”
