Gaining experience and enjoying interacting with others
When we asked Blake what he’s enjoyed about volunteering so far, he said, “I like coming together as a group and being occupied for the duration of my days, so I’m not disinterested and bored.” Blake is a person who likes to keep busy and has prior experience volunteering with Disability Trust, where he participated in community programs.
He also has some experience doing administrative paperwork for his uncle’s building and asbestos removal company. His career goal is to work two full days a week. In the long-term, Blake wishes to use his outgoing personality to connect with and inspire others.
Supporting Blake’s career goals
For the team in Wollongong, having Blake’s presence and assistance around the office is greatly appreciated.
“We are lucky to have Blake supporting us and becoming part of our team. I can’t wait for him to kick more goals,” says Danielle, Senior Operation Manager. The housing team at Kembla Grange are proud of Blake and the positive example he sets for his other housemates.
“It has meant a lot to Blake to do something meaningful with his day and be part of a team. He returned home after his first day with Northcott full of smiles and stories; we could tell he had a great day despite some first day nerves.
I look forward to watching Blake develop his skills and I’m sure he is going to bring a lot of great energy into the office as he does at home,” says Amanda, Northcott Service Coordinator.
Thank you, Blake, for all the support you have provided our Wollongong office, we so appreciate it!
