Start living your life your way

Live the life you want to lead by learning useful everyday life skills. Whatever your interests and goals are, we’ll work together to develop your daily living skills so you can be a part of your community in a way that works for you. You’ll build your confidence and independence, while expanding your interests, social network and practical abilities.

Without Northcott, my life would be totally different. I’d probably still be at home every day, not looking for jobs or learning how to cook or look after myself.

Life Skills participant

You might like to join a sporting or singing group. Or learn how to cook, manage your finances or drive a car. Perhaps you want to move out of home, travel independently, or learn how to find and keep a job. As you learn your chosen skills, you’ll also improve your ability to communicate, solve problems, and plan and organise tasks. You’ll build resilience, learn how to work with others and live a more independent life.

We believe everyone has the potential to achieve their goals. The sense of achievement you’ll feel as you learn new skills will give you the confidence to work towards new goals in the future.

Your needs come first

We’ll work with you and your family to understand your individual needs and goals. We’ll get to know you so we can map out the life-skill strategies that will enable you to live the life you want to lead. Your goals can be as unique as you are, and we’ll work together to make them happen.

Flexible learning environments

Different people like to learn in different ways. This is why we offer flexible learning environments that best suit you. It may be individual support or working in a small group at a centre where you can build your skills as part of a community. We’ll explore the different options with you and create a plan to get you on the path to achieving your goals.

Empowering you to try new activities

Gaining independence to live life on your terms is a key outcome of developing everyday life skills. You’ll learn by doing, and feel empowered to try new things for yourself, whether the activity is big or small.

Be an engaged member of the community

Learning everyday life skills at a centre offers you a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends. You’ll be part of a supportive and encouraging community, which will boost your sense of wellbeing. And you’ll enjoy new experiences and fun social activities so you can get even more out of life.
