A long and varied career as a physiotherapist

News Physiotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Garran, Clinical Lead – Therapy at Northcott. Peter is based in the North Parramatta office and has been at Northcott since 2004, almost 20 years now! He has had a varied career, working as a flautist, a flute teacher before studying physiotherapy and becoming a physiotherapist.

In this story he shares a little bit about the different roles he has had at Northcott and what he is up to now.

Tell us a little bit about your career path and what led you to work at Northcott?

I worked as a flautist, flute teacher and singer (sometimes suspended upside down – in the name of art) before going to university to study physiotherapy.

I worked for a stint for a school in Kirrawee before coming to Northcott as part of the (then) Early Intervention Service in 2004.

Glen Gardiner was CEO back then and stylish ladies used to run a fundraising ball each year!

What gets you out of bed each day to come to work?

I love coming into work because I have the pleasure of working with a great bunch of staff and customers. As a physiotherapist also love advocating and supporting our customers to move physically in the best way they can as best they can. I get to meet and support so many different people and I am grateful that our work allows us to be a part of the lives of an incredible range of people who it is a privilege to work with.

Do you and your team have any exciting events or projects coming up?

The playground in Parramatta has been refurbished with new soft fall and equipment. It has been a long time coming and it will be “officially opened” in May. This new equipment will allow us to work with children to build on their motor skills through playing and their communication skills by following instructions.

Do you have any favourite quote or mottos you live your life by?

When there’s tea there’s hope. Thanks for chatting with us Peter, it has been a pleasure getting to know you!
