NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention
We are thrilled to announce that the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has appointed Northcott as a NDIS Partner in the Community to deliver Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Services in NSW.
Northcott will be delivering ECEI services in the Hunter New England, Mid North Coast, Northern NSW and Western Sydney areas. More than 120 staff will be employed to deliver the ECEI service which will significantly increase our impact in supporting children aged 0-6 years with developmental delay or disability and their families/carers.
What is the ECEI approach?
The ECEI approach supports children aged 0-6 years with developmental delay or disability and their families/carers. It assists families to support children to develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life.
The NDIA has worked with a range of early childhood intervention practitioners and researchers to design an evidence-based, best practice ECEI approach for the NDIS. It is a family-centred approach that focuses on tailoring support to the individual needs of the child and identifies the type and level of early intervention supports that a child and their family needs to facilitate the best outcomes.
The NDIA’s ECEI approach delivered in NSW after 1 July 2018 will be delivered differently to the transitional NSW ECEI approach. This is because the NDIA is required to ensure that all the Partners in the Community ECEI programs across Australia are nationally consistent rather than have different state and territory characteristics.
With almost 90 years of experience supporting children with disability, we also understand the importance of learning in the early years in order to set a foundation for developing children’s abilities. We support families as a whole as we recognise the importance of facilitating and maintaining family connections and respecting culture because we know children thrive when they learn from people they know and trust.
Current work plans
Since the announcement on 31 May 2018, we have been working to:
- Recruit qualified and experienced staff
- Plan for staff induction and training to equip them to deliver ECEI services
- Set up offices in suitable locations across our partnership areas
- Design a relevant management structure to support the delivery of ECEI coordinators
Our work is tracking well and 30 members of staff commenced work on Monday 2 July and received training in their first week. More staff will commence work mid and late July and will be similarly trained on commencement.
We envisage our team will be complete by the end of August. In the meantime, we will continue to work with the NDIA to engage with families, the community, service providers and current transition providers to build awareness that Northcott is their Partner in the Community and start to work with all stakeholders to deliver ECEI services as soon as possible.
Northcott has been working as an ECEI transition provider in Northern NSW, Mid North Coast, New England, Western Sydney, South Western Sydney, South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Shoalhaven areas since 2016. Many of the staff working in these roles will transfer to the new roles under the Partners in the Community program. We will be recruiting for additional ECEI staff to meet the delivery needs of our partnership with the NDIA. People with early childhood skills and qualifications are encouraged to apply for work with Northcott. For information about the roles and to make an application, visit our careers page now.
