About the role

This role focuses on supporting First Nations children aged 0–9 with disabilities or developmental delays — empowering their independence, community inclusion, and overall quality of life.

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with First Nations families, ensuring their voices and preferences are at the forefront.
  • Undertake observations of a child in their natural environment (face to face and/or remotely via video conference, where applicable) to assess their functioning and support needs.
  • Support First Nations families in establishing meaningful goals & aspirations for their child and family, and track their progress toward these goals.
  • Provide community connections and linkages to mainstream services in the local area to improve children’s access to the right supports and meaningful social participation.
  • Work within the framework of the Best Practice Guidelines in Early Intervention.
  • This role is based in Western Sydney and involves travelling across the area to engage with families and communities in their own homes.

About You:

  • Have experience working with First Nations children and families.
  • Understand child development (0–9 years).
  • Know and are connected to local First Nations communities.
  • Are confident in building community networks and service pathways.
  • Can promote a culturally safe and supportive work environment.
  • Aboriginality confirmed by a common seal and a reference from an Aboriginal organisation or community group.
  • A tertiary qualification in Early Childhood or Allied Health is desirable.
  • Understanding of child protection principles and Keep Them Safe.
  • Willingness to travel across Western Sydney.

The NDIS Partners in the Community Program (PITC) supports the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to be implemented locally.

As an NDIA partner, Northcott will deliver the NDIS Early Childhood Approach (ECA) service to local communities in Northern NSW, Mid North Coast, Hunter New England, North Sydney, and Western Sydney. The EC approach supports activities that improve the independence and social participation of children aged 0-9 with developmental delay and/or disability.
