The first weekend away to Tamworth for Warren

We love to support our customers to experience new things!

This week, Northcott Coffs Harbour customer Warren took a trip to Tamworth with his Northcott Support Worker, Jacob. The pair were visiting the famous Tamworth Country Music Festival. It was Warren’s first weekend away and he had a ball!

Warren’s activities

Warren stayed at our comfortable respite house in Tamworth. In the mornings, Jacob and Warren went exploring the town, walking down Peel Street to grab a coffee and check out the buskers and stalls. They also visited Tamworth’s Golden Guitar and Hall of Fame, where Warren saw memorabilia from his favourite country music stars including Slim Dusty. The pair also stretched their legs in the Botanical Gardens and took in the views of Tamworth from a lookout above the town.

In the afternoons and evenings, local support workers took Warren and other customers to watch and dance to country music at the big stage!

What Warren thought

Warren said his favourite part of the trip was meeting new people and watching the performers sing. He particularly enjoyed seeing the young talent, as well as the Women of Country show in the park.

Warren said he had so much fun, he’s thinking about coming back next year!

How Northcott supported Warren

Warren accesses Northcott’s Community and Individual Services, spending time doing group activities including Men’s Shed and Ten Pin Bowling. Jacob also regularly supports Warren one-on-one on Saturdays, taking him out around Coffs Harbour.

When Warren and his family mentioned the idea of a short holiday, Northcott stepped up to help with the planning. The main goal of the trip was to allow Warren to experience being away from home and his mother, Joan, while also giving him a taste of staying in specialist disability accommodation.

Our team in Coffs Harbour, including Support Coordinator Juliet, worked closely with the Tamworth Short Stays team to organise accommodation and support. Jacob, who has supported Warren regularly for the past five years, was asked to join the trip, driving Warren to and from Tamworth and supporting him during the day.
