Marwan’s tiny steps towards independence

Early Childhood News

After an initial meeting, their Early Childhood Coordinator Nida, supported the family to identify plan goals, and gathered and submitted all supporting documentation for the plan. Once approved, Marwan started accessing physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to build his independence in his daily activities.

Northcott worked relentlessly with us to achieve Marwan’s short-term and long-term goals.

Marwan and his family then relocated, and Marwan received support at the new home as well as vehicle modifications to help him become more confident while navigating through his home environment, school, and community. “Marwan needed extra supports such as a powered wheelchair, and orthotics to access the community. The family also needed home modifications to enable Marwan to fully access his home and allow his parents to continue to care for him with minimal impact on their health,” says Nida.

Since moving into the new house, Marwan’s parents are excited that he can now move more independently. “The relocation to a single-level house has enabled Marwan to move more independently in his powered wheelchair. But to me, the best outcome was when Marwan had a new walking frame. Watching him learn to take a few steps every day fills my heart with joy,” adds Aaliya.
