A show to remember

Life Skills News

Participants of the concert have been working hard to fine tune their performance skills over the last six months and they gave the audience a show to remember.

The concert was a fabulous opportunity for customers to build their confidence. They got to step out of their comfort zones to try new things while building different skills. There was a range of difference performances with solo acts, duets, instrumental performances and group routines. Customers were also involved in creating their own costumes and designing the set.

Hard work pays off

Northcott support staff from Campbelltown and Casula are incredibly proud of their customers and how far they have come.

Ismail Northcott Service Manager says, “It’s amazing to see all their work come alive today! They have worked really hard and practised for a very long time, so it’s awesome to see everyone in their handmade costumes.”

Ben and Madison, customers from Casula performed a lovely rendition of “Under The Sea” from the Little Mermaid. Ben plays the Caribbean steel drums and was really looking forward to his performance.

I was nervous but really excited. I’m relived the performance is done and it was so cool to get applause from the crowd. It’s been great to have my five minutes of fame.

Celebrating National Carers Week (16-22 October 2022)

The concert was funded in part thanks to a Carers NSW National Carers Week 2022 grant and it is one of five celebrations planned to recognise the contribution of our carers. National Carers Week is an opportunity to recognise, celebrate, and raise awareness among all Australians about the diversity of Australia’s 2.65 million carers and their caring roles.

Sue is customer Ash’s mum and carer. Ash has been with Northcott for over four years and he loves performing. Sue says, “It is lovely to see Ash perform on stage today. It’s a great day and it’s wonderful to see all the work he’s put in over the last few months come to fruition”.

The event ended with a group performance of “We’re all in this together” from the Disney movie High School Musical. It was followed by a presentation of certificates to all the participants of the concert and a delicious BBQ lunch. Lunch was catered by Northcott Casula’s Every Day Life Skills participants and Northcott Campbelltown’s Vocational Skills participants.

Congratulations to all the participants and Northcott staff for pulling off such delightful, fun filled event!
