Cans, confidence, and a dream: Stephen’s Journey to the Indian Pacific

Stephen has a big dream—to ride the iconic Indian Pacific train across Australia. And with determination (and a lot of cans), he’s making it happen.

Since October 2024, Stephen, an Individual Services customer from Dapto, has been visiting local businesses with his support worker and his very own business plan. Each week, he stops by for a chat and collects bags of cans generously saved for him by the community.

With support from Northcott, Stephen put his plan into action. His family wanted him to better understand the value of money and through his efforts, he’s not only saving for his dream trip while pursuing his love of trains and the Titanic, he’s also building valuable skills like confidence, money management and community connections.

Stephen has already raised an impressive amount and is steadily working towards his $10,000 goal. He doesn’t have a departure date yet, but once that ticket is booked, nothing will stop him from riding the rails of the Indian Pacific and achieving the adventure of a lifetime.
