Meet Loulou, a support worker from Sydney. We recently had a chat with her to learn a little bit about her and find out what she enjoys most about being a support worker.
When did you start with Northcott and tell us a little bit about yourself?
I started working with Northcott in early 2018 while I was studying for my Cert IV in Disabilities. I have almost 18 years of experience working in disability and aged care sector. I value mental and physical health, so I make this a priority. I do this by maintaining a healthy lifestyle including diet, exercise and lots of self-care. I love my cars, travelling, music, dancing, cooking and anything that provides me with a creative outlet.
What do you enjoy the most about being a support worker?
I like that every day is different and the variety in my work. I’m not someone who likes to sit still. I take a very ‘hands off’ approach so the people I support can achieve their independence goals. I am simply there to support people to live their best life possible.
What is your most memorable customer achievement?
To me all customer experiences and achievements are memorable and of equal importance.
From supporting customers to cook a meal for their family independently to assisting a customer in attaining their driver’s licence. From supporting a customer to move from home into independent living premises to building on hand and wrist strength to be able to open a ring-pull tin. All these achievements are relative to the individual. I don’t view any as big or small, more memorable or important, they are all important to me.
What is your favourite part about working here?
For the most part, the quality and integrity of support workers hired by Northcott, and the level of training provided by the company. There is freedom and flexibility that I enjoy in the range of services provided and the opportunities and challenges of my role. I enjoy my one-on-one experiences just as much as I love working in a team environment. Being a large, established company, there’s never a shortage of work available.
