Many Northcott customers are used to accessing our respite service. However, there is no NDIS item listed as ‘respite’, which can cause confusion. Don’t worry, respite is still available but it is described in new ways, such as:
- Short term accommodation and assistance
- Assistance in living arrangements (host family/alternative family) solution
- Assistance with self-care overnight (different levels)
What is Short-Term Accommodation (STA)?
Short Term Accommodation is accessible for short periods of time when a NDIS participant’s usual supports and/or accommodation cannot be accessed. Short term accommodation offers an opportunity for people with a disability to meet new people and try new activities, and also allows parents and carers to take a break or focus on other commitments.
STA includes all expenses in a 24 hour period including assistance with daily personal activities, accommodation, food and other activities.
A warm welcome
We aim to make our short stay accommodation service as much of a home from home as possible. Our Gold Coast Centre is a great place to access so many local activities from Theme Parks to fishing trips.
The team will look closely at individual needs including diet and health needs. We also keep age groups similar and offer special “holiday” style packages for people with similar interests.
Our Getaway
A fully accessible facility on the Gold Coast completed in 2016 with:
- Hi-lo electric beds with pressure care mattresses
- Ceiling mounted electric hoists
- Mobile hoists and shower chairs
- Over-bed support pull ups and tables
- Fully accessible en-suite bathrooms
- Height adjustable dining tables
- Large outdoor space
