The Federal Brewery re-opens for the Wagga Wagga community

News

The skies cleared for the Open Day and the celebration of the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) at our newly refurbished centre at Wagga Wagga. Whilst the centre has been operating for a few months with all of the services gradually moving across, we waited until now for the opening to welcome the community and celebrate this big day.

Luke and Aunty Cheryl, Elders from the Wiradjuri People performed the Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. The centre was filled with customers, families, staff and local supporters. The ladies from the  Wagga Wagga fundraising Auxiliary showed their support, which they have been doing since 1973. Northcott first opened in Wagga Wagga in 1973 at 4 The Esplanade.

The star of the day was customer Shane who whizzed from TV camera to TV camera, stopping to do a radio interview, dancing for the crowd and he also managed to fit in a speech as part of the formal ceremonies.

Local Independent MP Dr Joe McGirr was there, an important supporter in the local community. The local community gathered, with Zumba dancing, art, drumming, BBQ and a special Northcott cake. Everyone was impressed by the way we have treated a much-loved old building, made it accessible and provided our customers with lots of space so that they can organise their different supports to suit their needs.

The day was a big success thanks to Service Manager Kim and the fantastic team at Northcott Wagga Wagga who organised this celebration of inclusion, support and community for people with disability.

We even had a feature on Channel 7, check us out:
