Rachael Leahcar to perform at Northcott’s annual Cricket Gala Dinner
Northcott will be holding our annual Cricket Gala Dinner Thursday 7 November, which will include entertainment from Rachael Leahcar, season one finalist from The Voice.
Northcott has been holding this event for 24 years to raise much-needed funds to support children and adults with disability.
Hundreds of our supporters will join us at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with proceeds from the night going towards Northcott’s Recreation Service to ensure we can keep creating fun and social opportunities for people with disability.
Rachael is extremely excited to be joining us at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), and has always believed that it’s important to support organisations that make positive change, particularly for people with disabilities.
“Living as a legally blind person myself, I am grateful for the work Northcott does to fight for people with disabilities to gain equal opportunities,” Rachael says.
“I have the life motto that we all have obstacles to face and asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We are capable of so much when we work together, and with support from Northcott, we can achieve the goals we set for ourselves easier. We are all human and need a helping hand sometimes, and Northcott makes a huge difference to the quality of life of many people.
Every cent helps and will go towards brightening the life of a person with a disability. Sometimes we forget to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes; to empathise with how many challenges they may come across on a daily basis. With exposure and inclusion comes understanding and acceptance. Northcott helps to lift us up onto the same level in the community.”
Rachael smashed Australian television records and was nominated for TV moment of the year in the AACTA Awards when 4.1 million people tuned in to watch her Blind Audition on the first season of The Voice in 2012.
With a career that has seen her release four top 10 ARIA charting albums, tour live shows to sold out crowds and travel to Italy to sing with Andrea Bocelli’s orchestra, Rachael has shown that she is capable of achieving anything despite being legally blind and having less than 10 percent of visual function.
The annual Cricket Gala Dinner attracts over 400 attendees including corporate and individual supporters, past and present cricketers.
Funds raised at this year’s dinner will once again go towards Northcott’s Recreation Service enabling hundreds of children and adults with disability to take part in sporting and social activities.
