Get Kindy-Ready

Get Kindy-Ready is a program designed for both children with disability and their families. It is a six day program which aims to provide support to children with disability and their families/carers. Over the course of the program children who are entering mainstream school in 2017, will be provided with opportunities to engage and practice skills necessary for school. The children’s program is a six day program spread across two weeks. Each day will consist of a 4 hour structured session with a recess break.

The program will be run by an occupational therapist, speech pathologist and early educator. In a small group, children will practice skills such as following instructions, cutting, writing and making friends. Activities such as obstacle courses, simon says and animal mask craft will be run to test and improve the child’s motor skills.

This program is designed for children with identified developmental delay transitioning into mainstream school, or those whose parents and carers are seeking a diagnosis.

The Northcott Early Links service will also run a program designed for parents and carers. This is a 3 day program where parents/carers participate in get-to-know-you groups and information sessions. Parents/carers will be provided with information sharing strategies tailored to getting ready for school and making transition as stress free as possible. These information sessions aim to build confidence and knowledge about what to expect as your children transition into mainstream kindergarten. It will also provide you with tools on how to best support your child throughout this process as well.
